In Nigeria, the reality of environmental degradation is evident in our streets, drains, markets, and neighborhoods. From heaps of uncollected waste to plastic-choked waterways and air pollution from open burning, the environmental challenges facing our communities are urgent and escalating.
But what if change could start with a photo? A single tap? A group of people choosing to act?
What is Clean Sweep:
Clean Sweep is a bold initiative by Feexet Limited, designed to combat pollution through community action and digital Innovation. CleanSweep isn’t just about picking litter, it’s about activating everyday people to take ownership of their environment and empowering them to actively shape cleaner, healthier, and more vibrant public spaces within their communities.

The Environmental Reality in Nigeria:
Nigeria generates over 32 million tonnes of solid waste annually, with only a fraction collected or properly managed. Open dumping, clogged drainage systems, and indiscriminate littering are not just eyesores, they fuel flooding, disease outbreaks, and environmental injustice, particularly in underserved communities.
In cities like Abuja, Lagos, Kano, Port Harcourt, and across rural towns, the problem is made worse by weak infrastructure, limited awareness, and lack of community-driven solutions.
The consequences are clear:
- Increased flooding due to blocked drainage from plastic and household waste
- Health hazards from open burning and mosquito breeding in dirty environments
- Loss of biodiversity and environmental degradation
- Youth disengagement from environmental responsibility
CleanSweep: A Movement with a Big Mission
At the heart of CleanSweep is the belief that small, collective actions can spark major environmental transformation. The initiative is powered by two engines:
1. The CleanSweep App
A digital tool that lets anyone:
- Snap and report environmental problems like litter, dumpsites, or clogged gutters.
- Geotag the exact location of the issue.
- Submit the report to alert the CleanSweep community.
- Mobilize a local cleanup response or advocate for systemic action.
2. The CleanSweep Community
A vibrant network of volunteers and environmental champions committed to:
- Hosting regular cleanup drives in neighborhoods.
- Educating people on proper waste disposal and recycling.
- Creating local awareness through storytelling, blog posts, and grassroots media.
- Leading digital literacy and sustainability workshops post-cleanup.
More Than Cleanups: We’re Building Towards the SDGs.
CleanSweep isn’t just about collecting trash, it’s about transformation. It contributes directly to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including:
- SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-being: By reducing pollution, we’re creating safer, cleaner environments that reduce exposure to disease.
- SDG 6 – Clean Water and Sanitation: Through community cleanups, we’re protecting waterways and drainage channels from pollution.
- SDG 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities: We are empowering citizens to co-create cleaner, more livable urban and rural areas.
- SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production: Beyond just cleaning up, CleanSweep fosters awareness about waste generation and encourages practices like reducing, reusing, and recycling within communities. This promotes a more circular approach to resource management.
- SDG 13 – Climate Action: By reducing waste burning and encouraging eco-friendly habits, we support broader climate resilience goals.
- SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals: CleanSweep thrives on collaboration with local volunteers, community and youth leaders, NGOs, and government stakeholders.
A Movement Anyone Can Join
You don’t need to be an expert, wear a badge or fly a cap to join CleanSweep. You just need to care.
Our vision is to turn passive observers into active changemakers. Whether you join a cleanup, download the app, share our blog, or encourage others to dispose of waste properly, you are part of the CleanSweep movement. Because every street deserves a clean and excellent look.
And every citizen has the power to make it happen.
